Released on late 2004, the Rio Carbon definitely is one gadget you do not take for granted for. Why? Because it has left footprints on to the gadgets freaks mind imprinting through it the several milestones it had achieved all through out the years. For one, it has won accolades as the consumers’ darling for making it on top 100 Best Products of 2005 awarded by PC World. And secondly, it was rated 4.5 out of 5.0 by PC Mag during its introduction.

And today, as it continues its assault in the MP3 scene, several improvements have been made for the gadget. It had replaced the Rio 1.5GB Nitrus, its predecessor’s mini joystick with a powerful navigation directional pad. All together with the menu button can be found on the upper right part of the MP3 player. With the improvement, it had made navigation a gentle breeze at maximum comfortability level to users making it perfect for the righties and the lefties.

Pros

• No dedicated software, but instead simply drag and drop songs or albums directly to the player
• Added stop watch feature where it records for up to 10 splits and added voice recorder feature as well
• The design is awesome where metallic casings are finger-print prone
• The rechargeable battery can run up to 25 hours straight
• Compatible with Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, XP and MAC OS X v10.2 or later
• Available in 5GB and 6GB

Cons

• The player will not play WMA with loss-less compression, but should not be a major flaw
• It supports only WMA and MP3 formats
• No belt clips for body hanging

So far there are only minor cons. And should not keep you bothered at all. During its release the market price was approximately $250 dollars but has since then lowered to about $150 to $175 dollars. In general, no need of it to play videos among other features not included, as our main purpose of having it is to listen music anyway.
