The Cowon D2+ (see CNET Review or the Engadget Post) is a touch screen mp3 player from Cowon that’s a little nicer, but not a lot different than earlier models. That said, it’s still a decent mp3 player in competition with other touch screens like the Apple iPod Touch. The things that have changed on the D2+ do make it a lot better. The price has dropped too. Ok, maybe I was rash in saying it wasn’t a *lot* different. Smile.
Cowon D2+ Quick Stats:
- Dimensions: 3″ x 0.65″ x 2.2″
- Weight: 3.21 oz
- Screen: 2.5-inch, 24-bit QVGA (320 x 240) touchscreen LCD with 16 million colors
- Memory: 16GB – Memory expansion via (SD, MMC) Card Slot
- Features: Video and audio player with FM tuner, voice recorder, and text and photo viewer
- Folder Limit: Built-in memory: 3,000 files and folders
- Supported Media Types: MP3, WMA, FLAC, WAV, APE, JPG, TXT
- Battery Life: Up to 52 hours (Music) of continuous playback or 10 hours for movies
Then again, the improvements to the interface are more cosmetic than practical. Two years (since the D2 originally came out) is a long time and you’d just think a company like Cowon would have a lot more progress to show in their latest MP3 and portable media player.
That said, it’s still got a lot of great features. I mean, it’s not bad. It’s a good alternative to some of the other touch screen PMPs out there, but it’s definitely not king of the hill either.
Your best bet is to get your hands on one and decide if it’s right for you. Some people are going to absolutely love this mp3 player that does a lot more. As mentioned, the price is very reasonable too. In today’s tight economy, this is sure to be a factor for a lot of people
