The iRiver P7 (See CNET Review or Engadget’s Video from January 09) was announced at CES 2009 in January and now it’s here. It looks like it was worth the wait too. This large, touch screen does it all and then some. Well, I don’t think it makes coffee. For the price, though, I’m not complaining. At all. This is one of the coolest PVP (Portable Video Players) I’ve seen. That said, there are quite a few things that could/should be better with it. Here’s the rundown real quick, though, about what it does have.
iRiver P7 Quick Stats:
- Dimensions: 4.4″ x 0.5″ x 2.9″
- Weight: 6.1 oz.
- Screen: 4.3″ LCD touch screen with 480 x 272 pixel resolution
- Memory: 16GB internal
- Audio Formats Supported: ASF, MP3, WAV, WMA, AC-3 , FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, APE (Monkey’s Audio)
The iRiver P7 just looks really, really cool. So much, that you want to like it even if you don’t like it. The support for video is sort of limited, which is a big drawback for a portable video player. And yet, when you see the iRiver P7, you don’t really hold that against it – you work to get your video into formats it can support. Then there’s the software that hooks the beauty up to your computer. This is a bit wonky as well. Still, you work with it because the iRiver looks so darn cool.
All that said, the P7 by iRiver *does* have a really terrific sub $200 price tag, which is nice. The touch screens are becoming cheaper and cheaper all the time. Pretty soon everyone will have one probably. Until then, if you don’t have one, the P7 PVP by iRiver is a great way to get into the game with your first multimedia touchscreen. Future models will probably be better, but this one is great for the price.
If you have the iRiver P7, leave a comment below and let us know what you think!
